The Los Angeles Times today (Wed., 11/04/2015) ran an article about California regulators fining both Blue Shield of California and Anthem Blue Cross for overstating the number of providers in their networks back in 2014. As you may have heard they listed doctors in-network that were in fact not contracted.
The networks were one of the few components of health care insurance that was not regulated by the Affordable Care Act. Thus carriers extensively manipulated these networks, not only creating numerous different networks, but making it very difficult to check whether a doctor was actually contracted.
We are still dealing with these issues. Many doctors’ offices do not know whether they are actually contracted or not. That’s why Quantum cross-references every provider against multiple sources to get as accurate a picture as possible. Don’t risk being on the hook for thousands from visiting an out of network provider, contact Quantum today for help.
